Ground nut yogurt

I am able to make very nice, thick ground nut milk yogurt at home. For this we need to soak ground nuts for about 8 hours in water. After this, throw away the water used for soaking. Now take fresh water. For a fist full of ground nuts, about a glass of water (300ml) is sufficient. Now, use the electric mixture to make milk. Strain it. Boil this milk while stirring often for about 5 to 6 minutes. Cool almost. Use the yogurt starter. Thick yogurt will be ready in 6 to 12 hours depending on the climatic conditions.
This yogurt can be used for making tasty curd rice, buttermilk, curry ( Kadhi) or raita or salad dressing. I also use it for fermentation of Dhokla or Handvo. You can also use it in making dough for Parathas or Naan for softer outcome.

Happy, Healthy Diwali!

Diwali is festival of Lights, sounds, sweets and fun! We vegans choose to eat sweets which are dairy free of course. Nandita discovered a sweet shop in Mumbai selling only diary free sweets! Free from any artificial flavour and colour and of course, white sugar! It is called as Natural Sweets. Call them on 26195075-3890 at Vile Parle. Make sure you tell them that you don't want any sliver foil covering on any of your sweets. They deliver at home also.
Enjoy Diwali! And stay healthy!

Green For Life

I just finished reading this very inspiring book by Victoria Boutenko. She has written this book in a very simple English, very easy to understand. The book covers her journey to search for a healthy raw vegan diet that is very easy & tasty. She has written about chlorophyll, acid balance in the stomach, what is the diet of chimpanzee, what is missing in our diet, how to prepare green smoothies etc. The book is in our library. 'Green smoothie addicts', this is a must read! I have been personally very much benefit ted by drinking daily green smoothie daily. Victoria does not insist now on just raw diet, but more on the benefits of green smoothies in our diet. The book contains very inspiring testimonials also. It is a small book, you can finish in two days or so. But, you may take time to digest the info contained in the book!
